The History of Hyosung

Hyosung Motors is a subsidiary of Hyosung Group of Industries and was founded in 1978, being initially focused on building Suzuki designs. The agreement between Hyosung and Suzuki was signed in 1979 but the company grew up a lot in the next few years so it was chosen as the motorcycle supplier for the Asian Games held in 1986. In addition, it was also selected as the motorcycle supplier for the 1988 edition of the Olympic games.

As mentioned, the company grew up a lot in its early days so, as a result of its continuous expansion, it established its first technical research institute in 1986. By 1987, the company was already able to build motorcycles using in-house technology. One year later, Hyosung was already capable of exporting motorcycle to Japan, no less than two models being sent to the neighbors: Familia 100 and FR 50.

The time passed by and the company continued its expansion, creating two new departments in 1990: the Machine Sales Incorporation and the Motorcycle Sales Incorporation. Moreover, in 1991, the Korean firm finished the construction of its second factory in Daejeon Daesung.

Three years later, thanks to its high production capabilities, Hyosung was able to export motorcycles to Europe, the CAB 50 being initially sent to Italy, a country which already owned several motorcycle manufacturers.

If in 1996 the company has already produced 1 million units, five years later it reached the 2 million motorcycle milestone, continuing its impressive growth.

In the next few years, Hyosung signed agreements with several companies around the world in order to be able to deliver its products easier than anytime before. For instance, it struggled to improve its network in Asia and Europe as well as in the United States through new deals and dealerships
